The investment project involves building a new industrial facility in Térmens with a total floor area of 5,863.2 m². It will comprise 30 refrigerated storage chambers with a combined fruit storage capacity of 6,060 tonnes.
The new facility will feature advanced monitoring technology, comprehensive control of cold-storage conditions and fruit ripening parameters, and an AI-powered data analytics system. These systems will track changes in storage conditions and help ensure that the fruit retains optimum quality throughout the storage period.
Objectives:
- Operational efficiency and productivity: The new facility will improve efficiency, streamline workflows, reduce energy use, and lower operating costs.
- International growth and market diversification: By slowing the ripening process and maintaining the fruit's moisture levels, the new storage capacity will extend shelf life and facilitate distribution to more distant markets, supporting higher export volumes.
- Sustainability and social responsibility: The refrigeration system will use NH₃ (R-717), helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Innovation and digital transformation: The facility will incorporate advanced monitoring and AI-powered data analytics to improve process control and decision-making.
- Cooperative integration and regional development: These benefits will be passed on to individual members through cost optimization, helping to improve the competitiveness of both first-tier cooperatives and their members.
Results:
The project is currently under construction. Its results will be assessed once the building has been completed and the facility is fully operational.
Funding:
This investment is co-financed by the Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación (MAPA) and the European Union (43%) under the CAP Strategic Plan – EAFRD.
